Personality type guides

These pages are the codes TraitTally can print: 16 types in the MBTI tradition, 9 Enneagram types, and 12 DISC letter pairs. Read them as notes on a framework, not as your result. A description that fits before you have answered anything is usually the Barnum effect. Forer handed one identical paragraph to a whole class in 1948 and the average fit rating was about 4.3 out of 5.

None of these codes is a diagnosis, and none of them is a hiring screen. A letter that wins by one or two points is a weak sort. Scoring rules, including the missing norm group, are on the methodology page.

16 types, MBTI tradition

Four letters, each from a forced choice: Extraversion or Introversion, Sensing or Intuition, Thinking or Feeling, Judging or Perceiving. The questionnaire is 70 items written for this site. It is not the official MBTI from The Myers-Briggs Company.

A letter that wins 9 to 8 prints the same character as a letter that wins 17 to 0. The close one is the letter that usually changes on a retest. Pittenger's reviews of this framework put the share of people who get at least one different letter after about five weeks at roughly half. Read the tallies on your result before you adopt the nickname.

9 Enneagram types

Nine types, organized by the motive the teaching tradition puts at the center, not by a checklist of habits. The test is 36 items. Your result is the type with the most points, and the result page shows the runner-up because close finishes are common.

Wings, stress moves, and instinctual variants are not scored. Hook and colleagues' 2021 systematic review in the Journal of Clinical Psychology is the paper the methodology page cites when it says the peer-reviewed support is thin next to trait models.

12 DISC letter pairs

Four work styles from William Moulton Marston's 1928 book Emotions of Normal People: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness. Marston never built a test. Ours is 20 rating items. The two-letter code is the top style plus a runner-up when that score also clears 50.

Each percentage is your own ratings rescaled to 0-100. There is no comparison group, so a high D is not a rank against other people. Twenty items can sketch a meeting-room style. They cannot screen candidates.

Big Five, which has no types

There is no type page here because the model has no types. Fifty items, ten per factor, produce five scores. A 75 means your average answer on that factor was 4 out of 5. It does not mean you scored higher than 75 percent of people.

Researchers prefer this model because the five factors have been recovered in many samples. If you take one test on this site and you want the one with the most evidence behind the framework, start here.
